Avengers

You will remember from the previous post that at this moment in the film, Avengers, Captain America has arrived to face and fight Loki.  He has landed with his shield, protecting a man who courageously stood before Loki, speaking truth to power.  Loki had aimed his scepter at the man moments before.  After shooting his scepter and being blocked by Captain America….

Captain America:  You know the last time I was in Germany, and saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing.

Loki: “the soldier… the man out of time”

The liminality of Time...

Captain America is, literally, a man out of time — the linear time line.  At the end of Captain America: The First Avenger, we watch as Steve Rogers forces Red Skull’s plane down into the ice cold waters.  Cap freezes.

Captain America is found decades later by SHIELD and thawed.  He is a man out of time.  Steve Rogers has no references for this current time, this current culture.  He holds values and moral center from WW2 era.  He looks 30 or so but is 100 years old.

Have you ever had that experience, where time goes away, where you feel like you are not connected to time — literally “out of time”?

What do I mean?

Stepping into Kairos time...

When I was beginning to create High Desert Essences in Taos, NM, I felt the invitation to create Chive essence.  I followed the way I was taught:  put a glass bowl of spring water in the Sun with one or two flower dropped in it.  Leave it for 3-4 hours on a full Sun day.  I did just that.

When I went to pick up the essence something did not feel quite right.  I tasted it.  It tasted like Chives.  So I decided that was not going to work for High Desert Essences.  This is the moment where I learned my method of co-creating flower essences — Chives taught me.

I did not want to waste the essence, that would not honor the gift of Chives.  Without thinking, I downed the entire bowl of pure potent Mother essence.  That was on a Monday.

Next thing I know, I’m getting a text from a one of the women I painted with regularly.  Because I was currently in NM, I video called in.  The text read, “Are you joining us today?”  We painted on Thursdays, so I replied, “Yes, on Thursday.”  An answer came back, “Well that is now!”

Somehow I had lost Tuesday and Wednesday.  I had no idea where they went.  It felt like only 3-4 hours had passed since I took that Mother Essence.  How could 3 days have passed?

It took me about a month to ground myself back into the human linear timeline that is seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years.  Somehow Chives had aligned me with a very different timeline — Kairos, Sacred, Universe.  This timeline is not linear.  Rather it felt more like the timeline of the Heptapods from the movie Arrival.

When I was able to reconnect with this linear timeline, I became aware that Chives had restructured my energetic and physical body to be in greater alignment with my Soul’s purpose and Soul-volution.

It was a powerful experience.  I am forever transformed by each experience where the Sacred pulls me out of linear human time into Kairos time.

Kairos time

It takes adjustment when you return, like it took adjustment for Steve Rogers.  Depending upon what happens when I am out of time, the adjustment back varies.  Sometimes I can step back into time and move forward without delay.  Sometimes it feels like I have lost 70 years or more, like the world I have come back into is completely different than the one I was in.  When that happens, I am aware that I am so very different than I was before.

I would not recommend downing an entire bowl of pure Mother Essence to experience what it is like to step out of time.

Meditation, prayer, silent retreats, dosage level energy essences, and other healing and spiritual experiences open you to those moments, to those experiences.

It is vital that when you intentionally ask to step out of time for healing, transformation, restructuring, soul-volution, you do so with an inner knowing of what you are seeking. Conscious awareness, consciously co-creating the out of time moment will enhance and potentize the transformative work that you are seeking, doing, manifesting.

When you come back, allow yourself the linear time you need to integrate the healing, the evolution, the experience before stepping fully back into society, into the hum of linear life.

Enjoy the experience.
The veil is always thin….
always awaiting your request
to offer you
a Kairos experience.

Faith vs Belief

Captain America: The First Avenger

Before Steve Rogers and the 107th walk back into the camp, Col Phillips is yelling at Agent Peggy Carter.  He is extremely unhappy that she helped Captain America set out on his self-determined mission.

Col Phillips:  I can’t touch Stark (Ironman’s father) he is rich and the number one weapons manufacturer.  You are neither one.

Peggy Carter:  With respect sir, I do not regret my actions and I don’t think Captain Rogers did either.

Col Phillips: You think I give a damn about your opinions.  I took a chance with you Agent Carter and now America’s golden boy and a lot of other good men are dead because you had a crush.

Peggy Carter:  It wasn’t that.  I had faith.

Col Phillips:  Well I hope that is a big comfort to you when they shut this division down.

Then there is a great deal of commotion.  They both go to see what it is.  It is Captain America entering camp with the 107th and Bucky.

After a brief conversation with Captain Rogers, Col Phillips turns to Peggy:  Faith, huh?

Faith

We confuse faith with belief in the Church.

Webster Dictionary Definition of belief
1: a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing
2: something that is accepted, considered to be true, or held as an opinion : something believed
an individual's religious or political beliefs
the beliefs of the Catholic Church
3: conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence

Webster Diectionary Definition of faith

1a: allegiance to duty or a person : LOYALTY
(1): fidelity to one's promises
(2): sincerity of intentions
acted in good faith
2a
(1): belief and trust in and loyalty to God
(2): belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion
2b
(1): firm belief in something for which there is no proof
clinging to the faith that her missing son would one day return
(2): complete trust
3: something that is believed especially with strong conviction
especially : a system of religious beliefs the Protestant faith

Even the Webster Dictionary has adopted a confused definition of the two linking them so closely together you may decide they are the same thing.

Faith vs Belief

For me, from my spiritual experience and understanding, they are not.

Belief is of the mind.  It is a head thing.  You believe in something because you have made an intellectual decision.  There is evidence, even if that evidence is not of this world, not tangible.

Faith, on the other hand, is more challenging.  It is of the heart.  Faith resides fully in the heart.  The rationality of faith is about intuition, inner knowing.

Beliefs are taught. Faith can not be taught.

Beliefs, especially in the church, create a system, a dogma, by which we live, through which we trust.  Faith invites us to TRUST without proof sometimes.  Faith invites us outside of dogma, outside of carefully constructed systems, out in the liminal realm.

Beliefs, no matter how deeply ingrained they are, can be learned and unlearned.  Faith must be transformed, transformed through deep work and trust with (note not by) the Sacred.

Beliefs can be argued, explained,  Faith just is.

Having Faith

When Peggy Carter says she has faith in Captain America, she is speaking about way more than belief.  Her inner knowing, having watched him in basic training, talked with him, etc, knows that he is capable of what he set out to do.  Her faith in him recognizes the power of his Soul to accomplish Good in this world.

She has faith.

I want to take this a step farther.

We teach is our churches that we need to have faith in God, faith in Jesus.  For me this is off the mark.  Faith in Jesus, faith in God allows us to take a pass:

“I don’t need to go to that protest, I have faith in God’s ability to create change in this world.”
“I don’t need to feed the hungry.  If they had a strong enough faith in Jesus, they would be fed.”

The thing is, our Sacred Texts do not ask us to have faith IN, they ask us to embody the faith OF.  Very different.

In the Paul’s letter to the church of Galatia, he encourages us to put on the faith of Christ, not just have faith in Christ.  (Galatians 3: 22-28) That is huge!

Think about it.

The faith of Christ Jesus is a sacrificial faith, a faith that understands sacrifice is part of Love, Compassion, Justice.  If we really believe what we say we believe, then our faith will uphold and support us through actions of sacrifice.

This is not easy stuff.

When Captain America made the decision to reduce Bucky and the 107th, he (in a way) took on the faith of Christ, an inner knowing that (1) he had the strength to do it and (2) if it required sacrifice he would.  And in the end (end of the film) he does.  He sacrifices his life for the safety of the world.

Do you have faith?

Are you willing to sacrifice for the betterment of your community, your family, the world?

Faith comes from the heart.
The heart, when filled with faith, has strength you can not even imagine.
Step our in Faith
Witness the transformation power of the Sacred as it flows through you.

Awakening to Our Call...

Captain America: The First Avengers

Steve Rogers’ Captain America uniform and dancing women have gained him such popularity in the States that the Senator sends them all overseas to entertain the soldiers.  The first show has Steve on stage being heckled by the soldiers.

Sitting off to the side as the women are dancing, he pulls out a notebook and is doodling.  Peggy Carter shows up:

Peggy:  Nice performance

Steve:  Yeah…I had to improvise a little bit.

Peggy:  I understand that you are America’s new hope.

Steve:  Bond sales take a 10% bump in every state I visit.

Peggy:  Is that the Senator I hear?

Steve:  At least he has me doing this.  Colonial would have had me stuck in a lab.

Peggy:  And these are your only two options?  a lab rat or a dancing monkey?  You were meant  for more than this, you know?

Steve is thinking about what Peggy said.  Peggy:  What?

Steve:  You know for the longest time I dreamed about coming over seas and being on the front lines, serving my country.  I finally got everything I wanted…..am I am wearing tights.

Steve, as a soldier is being brought to the medical facility:  They have been through hell.

Peggy:  These men more than most.

Then Peggy explains that this unit was sent to fight a Hydra base — 200 went and 15 returned.  She explained the the audience contained what was left.  This was the 107th, the unit that Steve’s best friend was part of.  This sparks a flame in him.

He learns that Bucky, his friend, has not returned.  The Colonial’s solution is to win the war, believing that it would be suicide to attempt a rescue.

The Awakening

In that moment, Steve experiences his Awakening.  Who is he?  Is he meant for more?

He decides in that moment to step up, to fully embody his call, to rescue the 107th….

Our Choice:

When we compromise our Call, when we chose to stay small, as I wrote in the previous blog, Spirit offers us an invitation to step up.

We can chose to stay small, to not heed those invitations, to continue on through our life with blinders around our eyes, hearts and souls.

Or

We can answer the Call of our Soul, the Call of Spirit.  We can step up!

Saying Yes to our Soul

The next series of scenes in Captain America: The First Avenger, show just that.  Steve Rogers steps up and becomes Captain America.  It requires that he face his fears, that he challenge his abilities and skills.

Alone, he jumps from a plane, finds his way across enemy line and into the Hydra base.  He invades the base and releases the prisoners, continuing his search for Bucky.  Once he rescues Bucky, he is confronted for the first time by his arch-nemesis Red Skull (the other enhanced individual from the serum, the one the doctor described as evil amplified).

Cap makes it out alive, with Bucky and the rest of the 107th, returning on foot to basecamp.

The work of Awakening

When we step up, it is not all Light and ease and beauty.  There is struggle in fully embodying our Call.  We must confront our fears, our Shadow, our apathy.  We must test and learn new skills and abilities.

It is work.  Life enhancing, life giving, life re-invigorating work.  But work, nonetheless.

As we say yes to our Call and begin our journey toward fully embracing our Soul’s purpose, we will encounter support and allies who will companion us, encourage us, support us, and help us clear the obstacles that are in front of us; just as Bucky and the 107th do for Captain America.

We are not alone.

When we come face to face with our deepest fears, our Shadows, Spirit is present reminding us that we are not our Shadow.  We are more than the darkness that we keep hidden, stuffed deep down inside ourselves.  Spirit will remind us that what we chose to feed is what is amplified.

When we come through this process of embodiment and integration, our community, our family, our friends will be there cheering:

“Let’s hear it for Captain America [You]”

In that moment, in that recognition, our souls, our hearts smile knowing that we have arrived fully.  We are who our Soul yearns to be.  We are who the Sacred created us to be.

Now the work is to continue to be our Soul, to emanate our Soul’s purpose authentically in the world, without compromise…

Dig deep.

Find your inner courage and strength.

Say yes.  Say yes to your Soul.

It is worth it.
